Most of the neutron sources around the world offer free access to the suite of instruments for academic and industrial researchers, usually with the conditions that the results from experiments are published in the public domain. The way of accessing beam time varies for different facilities, but it is typically arranged via the submission of a scientific proposal to be evaluated by a scientific panel. A few proposal rounds are available throughout the year with specific submission deadlines.
